Your well-being is a priority. Explore a range of medical plan options designed to give you the flexibility and coverage you need to make the best choice for yourself and your family.

Medical Coverage Options

At Samsung, we recognize the vital role of health in your well-being journey. We provide a selection of medical plan options and resources, partnering with you when selecting the coverage that best aligns with your needs.

You have four medical plans to choose from:

  • UHC Base HSA Plan (HDHP)
  • UHC Buy-up HSA Plan (HDHP)
  • UHC Choice Plus Copay Plan (PPO)
  • Kaiser HMO of California

Cost for coverage

You pay for medical coverage through paycheck contributions. The amount you pay depends on which plan you choose and who you cover.

Medical Bi-Weekly Contribution Rates

The above medical rates don’t reflect the tobacco-user surcharge. If you or your spouse/domestic partner identify as using tobacco, a surcharge will be added to your bi-weekly medical premiums. This is a $20 surcharge for one tobacco user and $40 for two.

Learn how to get the surcharge waived by completing the Quit for Life Program.

Medical plan tobacco surcharge and support

If you or your spouse/domestic partner identify as using tobacco, a surcharge will be added to your bi-weekly medical premiums. This is a $20 surcharge for one tobacco user and $40 for two.

You can get the surcharge waived by completing the Quit for Life Program. This free, personalized program from Optum helps you quit tobacco. After you successfully complete the program, the surcharge will be waived for the rest of the year.

Understanding your medical plan

All the plans we offer include:

For non-preventive medical care and prescription drugs, the deductible is the amount you pay before the plan starts to pay.

Once you meet the deductible, the plan shares the cost of care with you. You’ll pay either a percentage of the cost (coinsurance) or a fixed-rate fee (copay). The amount of coinsurance and copays depends on the plan you choose and the care you receive.

The out-of-pocket maximum is the most you’ll pay for covered expenses each calendar year. Your deductible, coinsurance and copays count toward this amount. Once you reach the out-of-pocket maximum, the plan pays 100% of covered expenses for the rest of the calendar year.

You have separate deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums for in-network and out-of-network care.

Important notes about deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums

  • Your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum reset each year on January 1. Out-of-pocket expenses you paid in the previous year don’t carry over, no matter when you enrolled.
  • Any charges by an out-of-network provider or facility that are higher than the plan’s “covered expense” amount won’t count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum. Your out-of-network provider or facility may bill you for the difference between what they charge and what your insurance pays.

How to enroll

You can enroll in medical insurance as a new hire, during Open Enrollment or if you experience a qualifying life event.

Compare medical plans

In-network vs. out-of-network

In-network services save you money with lower rates and makes getting care easier. Out-of-network services will cost more, and you’ll be responsible for any charges above what is considered an allowable charge.

All the UHC plans cover in- and out-of-network services. The Kaiser HMO plan covers in-network care only.
