Supplemental

Supplemental Insurance

While Samsung’s medical coverage may cover most of your healthcare expenses, supplemental insurance offers additional financial protection to help with out-of-pocket costs, as well as unforeseen expenses in transportation, child care or household assistance.

Benefits are paid directly to you, allowing you the freedom to determine how you spend them.

Important: These plans are not replacements for medical insurance.

Critical Illness Insurance

This benefit provides a lump-sum payment to use at your discretion if you or an insured dependent experience one of these medical conditions: Cancer (including skin cancer), heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, major organ transplant or coronary artery bypass graft, Parkinson’s disease, coma, severe burns or benign brain tumors.

Coverage amounts

If you’re enrolled in high-deductible health plan:

  • You’re automatically covered for $3,000 of coverage
  • You may buy a higher level of coverage
  • Your covered spouse and children are automatically covered at 50% of your coverage level ($1,500) at no additional cost

If you want to buy more coverage, you can choose these levels:

  • You: $15,000 or $30,000
  • Spouse: Automatically covered at 50% of your coverage level
  • Children: Automatically covered at 50% of your coverage level at no additional cost

Accident Insurance

Accident insurance provides a tax-free lump-sum payment to use at your discretion for common accidental injuries, such as fractures, dislocations, surgery, concussions, physical therapy and burns.

Coverage amounts

The amounts paid depend on:

  • Type of injury
  • Care received

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Hospital indemnity insurance provides you with a lump-sum payment if you or a family member receives hospital care.

Coverage amounts

If you’re enrolled in high-deductible health plan, the insurance pays:

  • $750 benefit for being admitted to the hospital
  • $250 per day for non-ICU coverage (up to 30 days)
  • $500 per day for ICU coverage (up to 30 days)

If you elect coverage on a voluntary basis, the following benefit amounts are available:

  • $1,000 benefit for being admitted to the hospital
  • $200 per day for non-ICU coverage (up to 31 days)
  • $400 per day for ICU coverage (up to 31 days)

Additional benefits are paid based on the type of services you receive.

Cost for coverage

You pay for the cost of coverage through paycheck contributions, unless you’re enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP).

If you’re enrolled in an HDHP, you’ll automatically receive the critical illness and hospital indemnity insurance at no cost to you. Samsung pays the cost for those benefits.

Important Guidelines for Supplemental Insurance

  • These policies or their provisions may vary or be unavailable in some states. The policies have exclusions and limitations that may affect any benefits payable.
  • If you elect coverage for your dependent children, you must provide notification to your employer when your dependent children exceed the dependent child age limit or no longer meet the definition of a dependent child.
  • If you elect coverage for your spouse, you must provide notification to your employer if your spouse no longer meets the definition of a spouse.
  • These plans are not replacements for medical insurance.

How to enroll

You can enroll in any or all of these supplemental insurance plans as a new hire, during Open Enrollment or if you experience a qualifying life event.

You must be enrolled to cover your spouse or child.
